We are pleased to inform that college professor can now contribute at our website. Each teacher will be given an Author ID , which can be used to create fresh content for the site. Any interested student may also be allowed to contribute to articles for websites (contact Dept of computer Science).
Ubuntu 13.04 Now available at Computer Science Dept
I am very happy to announce that latest version of Ubuntu is now available at Dept of Computer Science. The latest Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail adds several new features to Ubuntu OS including gcc 4.7.3 and unity 7. Total size of the CD image is around 800MB. Those Students who want a really light linux setup can also opt for "damn small linux" or "slitaz".
Joomla Powers Govt Degree College Kullu
This year we are moving ahead of old ASP.NET site and deploying our trusted Content Management System Joomla. Our hosting still uses PHP version 5.2, so We cant use the latest Joomla 3.0. Nonetheless Joomla 2.5 is still great and fulfilling our need.
The Vision of Joomla came to existence in late 2011, when we figured that Content of Govt degree college Kullu's site changes more rapidly than expected. The editing of asp.net pages took time and was getting cumbersome. But there was a huge base of about 60 ASP.NET pages that needed to be ported to joomla , which required time.
So we used another strategy to over come this . The idea was to create two separate websites on two different domains. We chose test.gdckullu.com as our second domain and deployed joomla on it. As we came close to the original site , we shifted the subdomain content to main domain. Now We have a full joomla content management system on our hand, which can be edited from anywhere anytime with internet connectivity (on tablet and on android devices). I would like to thank everybody including Gopal Krishan (Lect. BCA), Lekhraj (Lect BCA) for supporting joomla migration. I hope joomla fullfills not only our needs but also the needs of other colleges.
